Story telling

  1. STORYTELLING

Storyboarding is a visual planning tool commonly used in the pre-production phase of filmmaking, animation, and other visual media. It involves creating a sequence of drawings or illustrations that represent key moments or shots in a story. Storyboards help filmmakers and storytellers visualize the flow of a narrative, plan camera angles, composition, and overall visual aesthetics.

Storyboarding is an essential step in the storytelling process as it allows creators to organize and refine their ideas before actual production begins. It helps them determine the pacing, framing, and overall structure of a story. By sketching out scenes and transitions, creators can effectively communicate their vision to the rest of the production team, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

The feedback I received during the evaluation sessions was extremely helpful in improving the storyboards because it gave me a new perspective and helped me identify areas for improvement. One of the most beneficial aspects of the storyboard creation process for me was that it allowed me to concentrate on the story's flow and structure, ensuring that each scene flowed seamlessly into the next and that the overall story was coherent and logical.

I was able to see how the story would unfold and make any necessary changes by mapping out each scene, character, and action before investing time and resources into the actual production by mapping out each scene, character, and action.

PLANNING AN ATTACK

Story: Planning an attack

Sentence description:

The Rebel alliance uses the device to plan their attack for the Death Star.

Synopsis:

  1. Rebel leaders gather around the holoprojector, which displays a 3D map of the Imperial base on Scarif. The leaders discuss their plan to infiltrate the base and steal the plans for the Death Star.

  2. As the Rebel leaders talk, the holoprojector displays different views of the base, including its layout, defenses, and troop movements. One leader points out a shield gate protecting the base, which must be disabled in order to allow the Rebel fleet to enter Scarif's orbit. Another leader notes that the base is heavily guarded, and that they will need a diversion to draw attention away from their main mission.

  3. The Rebel team arrives on Scarif and begins their mission. Cassian and Jyn infiltrate the base, while Rebel troops engage in a ground battle with Imperial forces outside.

  4. Meanwhile, the Rebel fleet arrives in orbit around the planet and prepares to launch their attack.

  5. The holoprojector displays a holographic representation of the base, which the leaders use to coordinate their assault. One leader notes that the shield gate protecting the base is still active, and orders a squadron of X-wing fighters to disable it. Another leader directs the Rebel fleet to engage Imperial starships in orbit.

  6. The holoprojector also allows the Rebel leaders to monitor the ground battle on Scarif. When they see that Jyn and Cassian have obtained the Death Star plans and are attempting to transmit them to the Rebel fleet, one of the leaders orders the fleet to provide air support for the ground troops to ensure their escape.

DESIGN AND EVALUATING ANIMATED STORYBOARDS AND VIDEOS

In order to create my storyboard into an animated video, I used various methods  and softwares.

Intro creator- https://starwarsintrocreator.kassellabs.io/#!/ENUxPOYNbWybL1a8_i2E

Procreate- To create sketches and ideations for how the story will flow in the video

Wookipedia- A website run by fans. Used for inspiration and information regarding the device and characters of the movie

OpenArt- Work with the background sketches and ideas on which kind of visual effects will work in the video

Animaker- https://www.animaker.com/

Used to create the video and edit

FINAL VIDEO

In a dimly lit room, the Rebel leaders gathered around a holoprojector placed at the center of a large table. General Dodonna activated the device, and a holographic image of Princess Leia appeared, delivering urgent updates on the war against the Empire. The hologram displayed a galaxy map, showcasing the positions of Rebel and Imperial forces. Real-time updates revealed ongoing battles and provided crucial intelligence. The holoprojector also granted access to detailed information about the Rebel base itself, including defenses and resources. With this valuable information, the Rebel leaders absorbed the updates, strategized, and prepared to face the challenges ahead in their fight against the Empire.

REFLECTION

The feedback I received from individuals unaware of the movie was crucial in evaluating the portrayal of my ideas. It helped me identify strengths and weaknesses, make necessary adjustments, and ensure that my message reached a wider audience in a clear and engaging manner. I really appreciated when they mentioned how the video progressed from the first two versions. I added the introduction and enhances the music as suggested by my peers. Also, I added an end to the story which made it feel more complete. The only suggestion I received after showing the third video was to reduce the time a bit in order to engage the viewers.
