Project description

In today’s fast-paced world, managing personal finances can feel overwhelming. With multiple accounts, investments, and expenses scattered across different platforms, individuals often struggle to gain clear insights into their financial health. FinTrack was created to provide users with a comprehensive dashboard that simplifies financial tracking, empowering them to make informed decisions effortlessly.

The problem

“Overwhelming financial tools create chaos instead of clarity, leaving users struggling to track spending, savings, and investments—missing out on smarter financial choices.”

01

Problem Statement

Users struggle to manage their personal finances due to the complexity of financial tools, leading to difficulties in tracking spending, savings, and investments.

Existing platforms fail to provide a cohesive view of financial data, resulting in confusion and missed opportunities for informed decision-making.

02

Solution

FinTrack offers a comprehensive dashboard that aggregates all financial data in one place. Key features include a streamlined overview page, customizable layout options, interactive graphs for tracking budgets and investments, and a dark mode for enhanced usability.

The goal

“Imagine having a dashboard that brings all your financial data together, offering intuitive navigation, customizable features, and clear visuals.”

It’s designed to simplify your experience, giving you the confidence to track spending, savings, and investments with ease, and make smarter decisions for your future.

03

User research

Conducted user interviews to identify pain points and preferences, created user personas, and established an information architecture to streamline navigation for the FinTrack dashboard.

Key Insights:

  • Overwhelmed by Data: Most users expressed feeling overwhelmed by cluttered information, making it difficult to locate essential data.

  • Fragmented Accounts: Users were frustrated by managing multiple financial accounts across various platforms.

  • Desire for Simplicity: Users preferred dashboards that offered customization and streamlined navigation to quickly access relevant information.

04

Design

Developed low-fidelity wireframes, refined them into high-fidelity designs in Figma, and created an interactive prototype to test usability and gather user feedback for iterative improvements.

Information Architecture

Before coming up with ideas and sketches, I created a sitemap to decide what features and pages would be most helpful for users. The structure I settled on is based on the research and what could be the best for the platform.

Result

The outcome of this UX project was a user-friendly financial dashboard that simplified complex financial information into well-organized, accessible sections. By employing a clear visual structure, users could easily view key data, such as account balance, savings, upcoming payments, and expenses, without feeling overloaded.

Usability testing revealed a marked improvement in task efficiency, with users smoothly navigating between features like payment schedules, expense tracking, and transaction history. Advanced users found the customizable options particularly useful, allowing for a more tailored experience.

Learnings

As a UX designer, this project taught me several key lessons:

Balancing Simplicity and Functionality: Learned to design a dashboard that is easy to use yet robust enough for advanced users.

Intuitive Navigation: Gained insights into user behavior to create navigation that provides quick, confusion-free access to critical information.

User Research and Testing: Discovered how users prioritize features and refined the design based on feedback to improve usability and flow.

Collaboration: Worked closely with cross-functional teams to align design goals with technical constraints and business objectives.

Information Architecture and Visual Hierarchy: Strengthened skills in organizing information and emphasizing key elements for both novice and experienced users.

Simplifying Complex Systems: Reinforced the value of thoughtful design in making intricate systems approachable and efficient for all users.
